Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice describes what Highlands County Released Inmates collects when someone visits, uses a search tool, or sends a message. It also explains why that information is used, which service providers or public authorities may receive it, and the practical limits of online security. Use of the site means acceptance of these data practices. Government records reached through outbound links remain governed by the originating agency, including access provisions and exemptions under Florida’s Constitution and Chapter 119.

Information You Submit

Terms Entered in Search Tools

A name, place, or other term typed into a search tool is transmitted to the independent provider that operates that tool so it can return results. Highlands County Released Inmates does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider’s data practices apply once the query is sent to that service.

Emails and Contact Messages

Information sent by email or through a contact form is kept as needed to read the request and prepare a response. A message may include the sender’s name, email address, and any details voluntarily placed in the text. Those communications are not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law or a valid legal process.

Technical Data Collected Automatically

Ordinary web systems create limited technical records when a page loads. Those records help deliver pages, identify faults, measure traffic, and protect the service. Depending on the visitor’s browser and network, the recorded details may include:

  • The internet protocol address used for the visit
  • The browser name, version, and basic configuration
  • The device category and operating system
  • Pages opened and the time spent on them
  • The referring website, when the browser supplies one
  • The date and time associated with each request

Cookies and Similar Storage

Cookies may be placed to understand how visitors move through the site and to support site or advertising functions. A browser can block or delete cookies through its privacy settings. Some features may work differently, lose a preference, or offer less tailored output when storage is disabled.

How Information Is Used

Collected information is used only for ordinary site operations and related service functions. It may be processed to:

  • Keep pages available, stable, and responsive
  • Send a search request to the appropriate partner service
  • Measure which pages and features visitors find useful
  • Diagnose errors, abuse, and other technical problems
  • Display advertising that may reflect general interests

Links and Outside Services

Pages may link to Highlands County Sheriff records, Florida Department of Corrections resources, court portals, release-notification services, and third-party search tools. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination controls its own collection and handling of data. Review that destination’s privacy terms before sending personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own technology to measure visits or tailor ads across more than one website. That activity occurs through the advertising partner’s systems, not through a separate personal profile maintained by Highlands County Released Inmates.

Parties That May Receive Data

Highlands County Released Inmates does not sell personal information. Limited information may be disclosed or transmitted when needed for the service to work, or when law requires it. Recipients can include:

  • Search partners that process a submitted query
  • Analytics providers that measure site traffic and use
  • Advertising networks that deliver or assess advertisements
  • Law enforcement or another public body acting under a valid legal order

Florida public bodies have separate duties under Article I, section 24 of the Florida Constitution and Florida Statutes section 119.07. This notice does not alter how HCSO, FDC, the Highlands County Clerk, or another agency responds to a lawful public-record request.

Reasonable Security Measures

Standard administrative and technical safeguards are used to reduce unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No website, transmission route, connected server, or storage system can be guaranteed fully secure. Visitors should avoid sending sensitive information that is not needed for a response and should understand that breach-proof protection cannot be promised.

Visitors Under Eighteen

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly seek or collect personal data from anyone under eighteen. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted personal information may contact the site and request review and deletion. Reasonable steps will be taken to remove confirmed minor-provided data from systems under the site’s control.

Your Data Choices

Subject to applicable law and the ability to verify the request, a person may ask about personal information held directly by Highlands County Released Inmates. Available requests may include:

  • Receiving a copy of personal data held about the requester
  • Correcting information that is inaccurate
  • Seeking deletion of data no longer needed
  • Objecting to or opting out of certain processing

These choices apply to data under this site’s control. They do not compel HCSO, FDC, a court, a search provider, or another linked service to alter its own records. Requests concerning an official Florida public record must go to the government custodian that maintains it.

Changes to This Notice

This Privacy Notice may be revised when site practices, vendors, or legal requirements change. An updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use after publication of a revision means the current notice governs that later use.
